    Polygon

Polygon ($MATIC), Ethereum’s “Internet of Blockchains”, is a decentralized Ethereum scaling platform that enables developers to build scalable user-friendly dApps with low transaction fees without ever sacrificing on security.

    Quick Facts

    • Polygon is a Layer 2 blockchain platform. Smart contracts are written in Cadence, a resource-oriented programing language that introduces new features to smart contract programming that help developers ensure that their code is safe, secure, clear, and approachable
    • Polygon utilizes a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism
    • Polygon is a network of scaling solutions for the EVM. It has a number of different offerings:
      • Polygon Edge — A modular and extensible framework for building private or public Ethereum-compatible blockchain networks (Live)
      • Polygon PoS Chain — An EVM-compatible Ethereum sidechain, secured by a permissionless set of PoS validators (Live)
      • Polygon Hermez — An open-source zk-Rollup optimized for secure, low-cost and usable token transfers on the wings of Ethereum (Live)
      • Polygon Avail — A general-purpose, scalable data availability-focused blockchain targeted for standalone chains and off-chain scaling solutions (DevNet)
      • Polygon Nightfall — A one-of-a-kind scaling solution that uses optimistic roll-ups along with Zero-Knowledge cryptography (TestNet)
      • Polygon Miden — A STARK based zk-Rollup with support for arbitrary smart contracts (In development)
      • Polygon Zero — A highly-scalable, Ethereum-compatible zk-Rollup. It uses an incredibly fast recursive proof system that is Eth-friendly (In development)
    • Currently “a single Polygon side chain” can theoretically handle 7,200 Transactions Per Second (TPS)
    • Polygon’s Cost Per Transaction (CPT) averages around $0.0001
