- Flow is a Layer 1 blockchain. Smart contracts are written in Cadence, a resource-oriented programing language that introduces new features to smart contract programming that help developers ensure that their code is safe, secure, clear, and approachable
- Flow utilizes a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism.
- Flow is purpose built for scalability. Instead of sharding, Flow validates in a uniquely efficient way by splitting tasks into four separate types of nodes: consensus, verification, execution, and collection. This allows transactions to stay atomic, consistent, isolated, and durable (ACID), and allows developers to build on each other’s work. It has a theoretical limit of 10,000 Transactions Per Second (TPS), but current implementation sustains roughly 100 TPS

- Account creation: 0.001 FLOW ≈ $0.0058
